Snapshot
- Location: Chalfont St Giles
- Home Type: 1970’s – 4 Bed Detached
- Main Issue: Bathroom layout and dated suite weren’t meet the needs of this modern family of 4
- Service: Space Plan + Styling
The Homeowner’s Challenge
We wanted a free standing shower and a freestanding bath tub rather than the combination of shower over bath, we are all tall and the spaces just felt cramped, yet the space overall in the room was good, it just wasn’t obvious how we could make it better.
This space was dated, with large apricot coloured bathroom suite that was out of style. The room also had a lot of space being taken up by brick built storage cupboards (one large cupboard housing the boiler tank and the other housing shelving).
They felt:
- stuck and unsure where to start
- unable to see the room configured any other way
- frustrated that the space was a compromise
- disappointed that they didn’t have the bathroom that met the needs of a modern family home
What We Saw
When we analysed the space, we could see that there was plenty room for the clients wish list, and a number of ways we could achieve it. We identified several underlying issues:
- Space was being taken up by unnecessarily large built in storage
- Dated suite was making everything feel more closed in
- Flow wasn’t working
- The layout no longer supported the needs of a family with teenagers
The Space Plan

After
What We Did
To transform the space, we:
- Removed the boiler cupboard – Used that space for a new rain shower
- Removed the venetian cupboard with shelves – which create a more open feel
- Suggested the relocation of the boiler to a more suitable space downstairs – the new upgraded boiler also meant that the house had hot water on demand, perfect for the varied schedules of the homeowners
- Allocated space for a beautiful free standing bath tub
- Updated the toilet, sink and towel rail to complement the new aesthetic
- Recommended the rehanging of the door to improve sightlines and flow
This space plan gave the homeowners everything they wanted – function and beauty.
The Styling
The owner wanted to lean into the Chilterns countryside location, and create a modern yet timeless British heritage style. Our mood board below, shows a mix of clean lines created by choices like the frameless rain shower, combined with shaker style cabinetry, and a classic butler sink, enhanced by modern touches like the bluetooth speaker mirror and adjustable spotlights to create just the right ambiance.
The Result
The space now feels intentional, modern, functional and most importantly aligned with their lifestyle
Homeowner Feedback
“Literally so impressed, once we had the plan and were clear on where we were headed the rest was just exciting, yes brining the plan to life was messy but what renovation isn’t, and because we were clear on what it would all become it made it so much easier to live with. We had complete confidence in the plan, and we absolutely love the outcome- the new bathroom is just perfect for us and is finally working perfectly for our all of our family”
